New community energy groups established in Central Bedfordshire

CES has been working in Central Bedfordshire to deliver our Community Energy Pathways Programme since December 2022. From two online outreach events, there were 25 expressions of interest from groups and individuals, which have started to shape nicely into five groups across the area.

We are very pleased to announce the first group to become incorporated as a Community Benefit Society is from the towns and surrounding parishes of Ampthill and Flitwick and are called Greensand Community Energy.  They are looking at developing a range of decarbonisation projects with local schools, businesses, and individuals.

Next is Buzz Community Energy, forming around Leighton Linslade/Buzzard and they are developing a pipeline of projects starting with an exciting school roof solar project.

There are also groups forming around Houghton Regis, Potton and Fairfield. If you would like to be part of their growing founding teams, please do let us know.

The first Central Bedfordshire Community Energy Forum, bringing the groups together to share best practice is being held in September.

The Community Energy Pathways Programme has been commissioned by Central Bedfordshire Council to help them reach the targets in their comprehensive Sustainability Plan.
