Community energy in Luton

Community Energy South have been commissioned by Luton Borough Council to help establish new and work with existing community energy groups across the Borough in 2024/25.

The Council declared a Climate Emergency in 2019 and launched The Luton Net Zero Roadmap in 2023. The roadmap places emphasis on helping local communities become more aware and involved in the growing community energy sector. This will form a key part in the town’s ambition to become net zero by 2040.

The programme offer communities and individuals across Luton the opportunity to establish new community energy groups and access vital funding to help deliver community-based energy projects such as:

• Rooftop solar for schools and businesses

• Energy advice projects for communities
